Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know it can help raise your mood also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
