The ingredients needed to make Slow Cooker Tomato Pasta Sauce with Italian Sausage:
- Prepare 12 oz. Italian Sausage links, cut into 1-inch pieces
- Prepare 28 oz. canned tomatoes, unsalted
- Take 1 cup unsalted stock
- Get 1 small onion, chopped
- Take 1/2 bell pepper, cored and chopped
- Get 1/4 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley
- Prepare 2 bay leaves
- Take 1-2 teaspoons dried oregano
- Take 6 garlic cloves, peeled and lightly crushed
- Take 1/4 cup ketchup
- Take 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Make ready 1 teaspoon kosher salt to start
- Take 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- Get 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions to make Slow Cooker Tomato Pasta Sauce with Italian Sausage:
- Throw all the ingredients into your slow cooker.
- Give it all a few good stirs.
- Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, or high for 4 to 5. It's a good idea to stir occasionally if you can to redistribute the seasonings. About 30 mins before you turn off the cooker is a good time to adjust seasonings so they can absorb - more salt if needed, maybe a pinch or two of sugar if your tomatoes are extra acidic, maybe a dash of Balsamic or extra Worcestershire if your tomatoes aren't tangy enough…
- A warning about high setting - it can get pretty hot depending on volume & surface area. I have an 8.5 quart slow cooker, which means greater surface area and, as a result, a higher heat for the volume. At 4 hrs on high, I could smell the sugars from the tomatoes and ketchup going from caramelized to burnt on the sides. Less likely to happen if you have a smaller capacity cooker.
- As a general rule, the lower the volume and/or the greater the surface area of the cooking vessel, the less the cook time. And there you have it. :)
- Enjoy with pasta of choice.
Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food
A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are great at combating depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to combat depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
