Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating a couple of eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.
If you want to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.
Some grains are actually wonderful for driving away bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that it can help improve your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
