Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you want to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.
Grains can be great for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
