Use Food to Boost Your Mood
Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to eat. There are several foods that actually can boost your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.
Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can truly bring you down! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!
So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try several of these instead!
