Foods That Can Make You Happy

Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at combating depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Eat some eggs to jolly up!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you would like to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
