Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should keep away from them. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. Some foods actually do elevate your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a few eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.

Some grains are truly wonderful for repelling bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
