Foods That Can Make You Happy
Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out some of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are fantastic at combating depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
If you would like to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
