Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you wish to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
