Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.

If you want to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Go with these tips instead!
