Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at fighting back depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

If you want to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping increase your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can actually bring you down! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know green tea can help improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try these hints instead!
