Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to stay away from them. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you elevate your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you would like to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.
Some grains are truly great for repelling bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know green tea can help improve your mood also!
You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
