Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Most of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are great at combating depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming some eggs to feel better!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.
If you want to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.
Grains can be great for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Go with these hints instead!
