Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are wonderful at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating a few eggs to feel better!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.

If you want to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. And now you know it can help you be happier as well!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
