Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may boost your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!
Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
Grains can be great for driving away a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. It’s easy to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods as well!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
