Foods That Can Make You Happy

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are terrific at battling depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods also!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
