Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you want to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can really bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you are aware that it can help raise your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
