Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nutritious and good for you. Some foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for improving your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

Some grains are actually wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Go with these hints instead!
