Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at fighting back depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to combat depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Some grains are really excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these instead!
