Use Food to Boost Your Mood
Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. Some foods actually do elevate your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and cheer up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a super protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know green tea can help you be happier also!
You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try some of these instead!
