Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and be happy!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods also!
