The ingredients needed to make Flapjacks:
  1. Prepare 150 grams salted butter
  2. Prepare 150 grams light brown sugar
  3. Take 210 grams rolled oats
  4. Take 2 tablespoons syrup
  5. Get 1 tablespoon treacle
Instructions to make Flapjacks:
  1. Preheat oven to 200c
  2. Melt the butter, sugar, syrup and treacle together in a pan
  3. Once all the ingredients have melted you should be left with something looking like this:
  4. Add in your oats and combine (you can substitute some of the oats for cornflakes or rice crisps for a different texture)
  5. Pack into a lined or greased baking tray (I used mild odourless coconut oil)
  6. Cook for 10 minutes. It may need a bit longer but keep checking to make sure it's not getting too dark on top. You want it to be bubbling when it comes out as it will harden as it cools.
  7. Let it cool, chop up into squares and enter into a bake-off! 🏆

Foods That Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that actually can boost your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating some eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you wish to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can truly help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
