Foods That Can Make You Happy

Most of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are great at combating depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Eat an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.

If you would like to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
