Discover How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
If you wish to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
