Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to be in a better mood. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
