Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Some foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
