Discover How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are fantastic at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
