Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.
If you want to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you consume green tea. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these tips instead.
