Use Food to Improve Your Mood
A lot of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. Some foods actually do elevate your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
If you wish to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.
Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods also!
See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
