Foods That Make You Happy
For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Eat an egg and be happy!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods too!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try several of these instead!
