Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to keep away from them. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at beating back depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat an egg and be happy!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
