Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and cheer up!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.

If you wish to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling starved can really bring you down! These grains can improve your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Test out these suggestions instead!
