Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods honestly do elevate your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Eat an egg and feel better!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods too!
