Foods That Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very healthy and good for you. There are several foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for elevating your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

If you wish to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s easy to feel low when you are starving! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. And now you know it can help you be happier too!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
