Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Consume an egg and be happy!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to lift your moods too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
