Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that actually can boost your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to discover, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for improving your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.
If you wish to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. And now you are aware that it can help raise your mood as well!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these tips instead.
