Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at dealing with depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating a few eggs to feel better!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
