Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. A number of foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are wonderful at battling depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a superb protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you would like to be in a better mood. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be better. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
