Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are fantastic at fighting depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling hungry can actually bring you down! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to lift your moods also!
