Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to stay away from them. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating some eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

If you wish to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
