Foods That Make You Happy
For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that actually can boost your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these instead!
