Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that actually can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to fight depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can really help to better your mood. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest them faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
