Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel healthier. And now you are aware that it can help improve your mood as well!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
