Foods That Make You Happy

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. A number of foods actually do raise your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are actually wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
