Use Food to Elevate Your Mood
In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. Several foods really do elevate your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to battle depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling famished can really bring you down! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these instead!
