Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.
Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can really help to make your mood better. It’s easy to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
