Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to discover, are terrific at battling depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try these tips instead!
