Foods That Make You Happy

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and should be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you wish to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be great for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling starved can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you are aware that it can help raise your mood too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
