Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at fighting back depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

If you would like to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these hints instead.
