Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating an egg and be happy!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.

If you wish to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Some grains are really excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
